Goodie Bag 1/1/07
Happy New Year! Took a little winter break there. Here's a new batch of tunes for ya.
EPMD - You're A Customer - EPMD's innovative use of sampling on 1988's Strictly Business was years ahead of it's time, and through this track, which samples the Steve Miller Band's "Fly Like an Eagle", shows exactly how much modern hip-hop has borrowed from this groundbreaking duo.
M.I.A. - Galang - I just like to repeate "Galangalangalanga" over and over and getting weird looks from people who have no idea what I'm talking about.
Mynah Birds - It's My Time - Here's a mindfuck for you. A song from a Rick James (yes, THAT Rick James) and Neil Young band from the mid-60's that finally surfaces on a new Motown box set. It's a classic.
Mastodon - Circle of Cysquatch - I have no idea what the dude is singing at all, but I put this on and sit back in awe of it's absolute wickedness.
Nina Simone - Rich Girl (Hall & Oates Cover) - Really cool cover off a Nina record no one's probably ever heard, 1978's Baltimore.
