Spektor shines on "Hope"

According to the All Music Guide, Regina Spektor was born and raised in Moscow until the age of nine, where she then moved to New York. She practiced piano for years until eventually enrolling at the SUNY Purchase Music Conservatory. It was there where she took an interest in Billie Holiday as well as blues music. She took what she learned and developed a penchant for quirky pop and that can be heard on her albums 11:11 and Soviet Kitsch. Her third record, Begin To Hope, is due June 13.

After hearing the advance, simply put, I'm blown away. The melodies are beautiful, and the colorful production reflects Spektor's playful vocal stylings. I'm resisting to urge to post more than one track, but I sincerely believe that when 2006 is said and done, this will be on the list of the year's ten best records.
